Heterophile antibodies were examined to 1, 088 serum samples of Korean women (Age: 18-35, prostitutes
reside in Pusan) using with sheep and goat red blood cells and the following results were obtained.
1. Of 1, 088 cases examined by slide cell method: 48. 24 per cent positive, 51. 76 per cent negative for
sheep red cells.
2. Test tube centrifugation technique was about fivefold higher than the Davidsohn¢¥s presumptive, test and almost equal to the Woellner¢¥s enzyme treated cell method.
3. The reaction in the sheep red cells was similar to that in the goat red cells except for a higher titer which averaged about two to threefold.
4. Differential absorption tests were performed for 523 cases which showed positive test by the slide cell method. As a result, in all of these cases the heterophile agglutinin were almost completely absorbed by guinea pig kidney, except 2 cases of 1 : 8, 2 cases of 1 : 2 titers respectively. No case of heterophile agglutinin of infectious mononucleosis type was found in any of these cases.
